Description
Florida based photographer, Jessica Miles, has been developing her skills in birth photography, self portraiture and creative sessions for the past ten years. Originally a Registered Nurse, certified in Obstetrics, Jessica combined both of her passions: childbirth and photography. After being diagnosed with a genetic disorder in 2016, she began taking self portraits which became a powerful way for her to document her health journey and what she experiences every day. It allows her to see her progress, as well as setbacks in a cathartic way as well as pursuing a goal to break down the stigma of living with a chronic illness.
Artist Statement:
Jessica Miles in an award winning, internationally published photographer residing in Bradenton, Florida. After a long career as a Certified Obstetrics Nurse, she began specializing in birth photography, as well as self portraiture. Through her photography she seeks to document her own personal experiences as well as focusing on capturing the beauty of others in all elements. She strives to portray raw, emotive vulnerability in many of her images and describes her work as honest, sincere, and intimate. The driving force behind her photography is for her subjects to leave a bold legacy for their families, a desire that motivates her self portraits as well. She believes that art has the ability to enhance the well-being of individuals, society, and our environment, and that artists have the power to heal, inspire, provoke, challenge, and offer hope. Everyone views the world in a unique way, seeing beauty in things that others may not. Photography allows people to see those different perspectives, and can be used as a tool for personal healing and positive change for many while nurturing creativity and self-expression.
