Bear Moon by David Minkin

ARTIST STATEMENT:

I am an engineer and BIM/VDC Manager for a construction company in Tampa, Florida. My work involves coordinating 3D computer models of mechanical systems within the building models.

I am also a professional photographer specializing in sports, landscape, travel, wildlife and architectural photography. My brother-in-law is a mineral dealer and I helped him guide tour groups on excursions collecting minerals throughout South Africa, Madagascar and Namibia. This gave me the opportunity to discover the many beautiful vistas in these countries, especially Namibia.

I used my experiences and friendships there to begin offering photo safaris throughout Namibia.

Taken in the slot canyon of Northern Arizona, this image scene was pointed out to me by my native Indian guide. It is a striking silhouette profile of a bear looking at the moon. The pointy shape at the top is the bears ear and he is looking to the left at the circular hole which looks like the moon.
