Description
Peggy has been experimenting with photography for the past four years, but is relatively new to painting, having just begun in 2018. She is currently working mainly in oils, but also does pencil drawings and, occasionally, ink-and-wash watercolors. She has studied oil painting with Suzanne Murphy, of Open Sky Studio, participates in an Open Painting group in Tarpon Springs, FL, and is a member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists, in Dunedin, FL, The Tarpon Springs Arts Association (TSAA), The Exhibiting Society of Artists, and participates in Galleries On The Go.
Her artworks usually focus on nature and landscapes, inspired by her travels both in the US and around the world, beginning with studying language and literature in Paris and then living and teaching in Amsterdam, and extending into her retirement travels and her life in Florida. Since her retirement, she has traveled extensively, both within the US and in Europe and Asia, and her inspiration for the birds, animals, flowers and landscapes in her paintings and photography are from those trips. Having now made Tarpon Springs, FL, her permanent home, she delights in identifying, photographing, sketching and painting the rich natural environment, especially the water birds that grace Florida’s shores and inlets.
Peggy began participating in local shows in 2019, with two three-artist Tarpon Art Sisterhood shows at the Tarpon Art Guild in June and November 2019. (She is a founder of the Sisterhood, established in 2019 to assist local artists in finding venues to show their work.) She has achieved the following awards: Photography: 3rd place. TSAA Paint and Photo plein air competition (03/2020); Sue Thomas Award plus honorable mention, TSAA Paint and Photo plein air competition (10/2021).
