Description

ARTIST STATEMENT:

I’m Eric, (b.1978) a contemporary artist living in Orlando FL specializing in a brushless style of painting. I employ a range of methods from pouring and dripping paint directly onto the canvas, to using a mixture of untraditional tools such as spatulas, and trowels to make sweeping gestural marks and dissolving washes of color.

A natural energetic liveliness flows onto the canvas, emotion takes a unique form. My process feels intuitive, spiritual, unbounded, limitless. I have discovered that in this place I am working at a soul level channeling a higher power where all creative expression comes from one source. I believe art emanating from spiritual energy transcends the human experience through space and beyond the universe.

My journey toward art began as a result of a really bad time in my life. In 2017 I was diagnosed with a life threatening muscle condition. I was in critical condition in an ICU of a hospital and barely clinging to life. While unconscious, I experienced what can only be described as a near death experience. I was without my physical body but felt as if it were still there. All of my senses were enhanced/heightened and I felt like I was pure energy with full consciousness. It was extremely euphoric and blissful. I felt connected to GOD, to everyone and all things in the universe. At one point I could feel my energy being thrust back into my physical body. When I awoke, I had an unusual urge to make art. Creative ideas surged within me. I felt a strong passion and drive or calling to make art in an instant. These new feelings were strange because I had never been artistic or ever really made a painting before this experience. I made a full recovery and went to the art store for supplies. I began making creative and colorful compositions that day and have never stopped since.

When I create art, I journey into other worldly thoughts-traveling the universe through the process of color. By exposing my most vulnerable self in each creation, my intention is to dissolve any imaginary boundaries separating us all. My art is about the transformation of the soul through lived experiences that change, evolve and help us grow. I think that art offers healing. When I connect with a deeper part within myself as I paint, I believe that this translates to those who enjoy my work. It is my hope that you unite with your own inner consciousness as a result of experiencing my artwork; allowing its energetic frequency to resonate within you at a soul level.
