Description
ARTIST STATEMENT:
I am an engineer and BIM/VDC Manager for a construction company in Tampa, Florida. My work involves coordinating 3D computer models of mechanical systems within the building models.
I am also a professional photographer specializing in sports, landscape, travel, wildlife and architectural photography. My brother-in-law is a mineral dealer and I helped him guide tour groups on excursions collecting minerals throughout South Africa, Madagascar and Namibia. This gave me the opportunity to discover the many beautiful vistas in these countries, especially Namibia.
I used my experiences and friendships there to begin offering photo safaris throughout Namibia.
Taken in the amazing, abandoned diamond mining town of Kolmansop, Namibia. This photo is one in a series of lighting studies in the engineer’s home. With the sand dunes taking over this home, the slats from the missing roof casts striking shadows throughout. These intricate lighting patterns create an intriguing visual effect.
One wonders how and why this old oil drum is on the 2nd floor of this home. It is obvious it has been there for quite a long time.
