Description
ARTIST STATEMENT:
I’m an abstract painter influenced by Abstract Expressionism. I was born in Buffalo, NY in 1975. A childhood visit to the Albright Knox Museum in Buffalo first ignited my love of art. Exhilarated and awed by Lucas Samars Mirror Room installation and the paintings of Clifford Still. I immediately realized that art has no boundaries or definition, just pure and uninhibited freedom.
In 1998, I received my BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and began working in the costume department of the Baltimore Opera Company. My immersion into the world of live performance art further nurtured my love for painting. Over the subsequent years, I began to incorporate many fabrics, patterns, and stitching into my artwork.
My most recent works combine mixed medium materials with overlaying colors, creating new landscapes of shape, movement, and emotion. I have shown in a solo exhibition June 2018 at the Orlo House in Tampa FL, and nationally, in group exhibitions, such as Gallery 464 “City of the Night” 2014 in Buffalo NY, the Gasparilla Art Festival 2012 in Tampa FL (selected as Emerging Artist), Altered Esthetics Art Gallery “Art Reincarnated” 2007 in Minneapolis MN, and the American Juried Art Salon Fall Show 2006.
I currently reside and paint in Tampa, Florida.
