Description
ARTIST STATEMENT:
Marie E. Howard is a graduate of College of Alameda, in California. She has been painting with watercolors for 43 years. She received training in technique but chose to escape from the rules and found the freedom to paint her own work in her distinctive style. Ms. Howard uses Dr. Martin’s ink watercolors.
In the medium of watercolor, she uses a technique called, Wet-on-wet, which requires embracing the unpredictable, spontaneous, fluid results. This technique yields wonderful, soft color gradations.
Her subject matter ranges from organic and geometric shapes to fluid themes suggesting movement and space. Her art is the light and color of her imagination.
The aim of her art is for any viewer to interact and resulting in producing a stimulating experience. She feels it’s not important to focus on whether its a positive or negative response. The important thing is that the artist is speaking to the viewer without saying a word.
Ms. Howard’s work recently showed at The Narrows’ Art Cafe Gallery, Fall River, MA, and at The Fall River Historical Society’s “Palette Pictures 1 X Exhibition”, Fall River, MA.
